Book review: Matilda by Roald Dahl.

The publisher's description
Matilda is a sweet, exceptional young girl, but her parents think she's just a nuisance. She expects school to be different but there she has to face Miss Trunchbull, a kid-hating terror of a headmistress. When Matilda is attacked by the Trunchbull she suddenly discovers she has a remarkable power with which to fight back. It'll take a superhuman genius to give Miss Trunchbull what she deserves and Matilda may be just the one to do it!
"Matilda will surely go straight to children's hearts." —The New York Times Book Review

My review
I adored this fabulous adventure as well as the endearing eponymous character twenty years ago and loved reading it again.
There is such wit, cleverness, and fun for a story mixing adventure, mystery, and comedy. You will meet some of the most magnificent flat characters (they cannot evolve) ever. Miss Trunchbull is a case in point. She is the arch bully and could not show any sign of kindness even if her life depended on it. Matilda's parents are among the worst parents of world literature… unloving, stupid, "half-witted", selfish, vulgar, and so on.
A tale of growth, of love - sought elsewhere than in one's family -, of empathy that you are bound to enjoy!
