Teaching with the Educational Foundation of the Economist - The Leadership Prize.

In our latest English lesson, my students engaged in the Leadership for Change Prize 2025 project, developed by The Economist Educational Foundation. This second session focused on the theme “Social media and the news”, an important topic in today’s digital world.

The objectives were:

* to explore how echo chambers influence decision-making,

* to weigh the risks and benefits of social media as a source of news,

* to develop critical-thinking and collaboration,

* and to evaluate whether it helps or hinders truth.

From the very beginning, the class displayed curiosity. Through role-play, group work, and debates, they examined competing narratives about journalism. Students were quick to spot how misinformation can spread. Engagement was high, and learning outcomes were clearly achieved.

By taking part in the Leadership for Change Prize, my students are practising English in an authentic context and contributing to a global conversation about leadership, media, and truth.
