An American author's Skype interview: guest post by Lisa.

Eric Price is an American author with whom we (the students of the 2de SIA at the International High School Nelson Mandela) have cooperated with in the efforts to understand American literature and its creation.

About three weeks prior to the interview, we were asked to analyze an excerpt from his novel Unveiling the Wizards’ Shroud and find questions that we would ask him during the interview. The analysis was in depth, each student was asked to analyze a certain aspect of the excerpt such as characterization, setting, stylistic devices, as well as the big five that we were taught in class.
This way, on the day of the interview, each student was prepared to ask multiple questions and knew who the author was and what his style of writing was.
Then came the day of the interview, with the six-hour time lag ;)
It was great, we webcammed Eric Price for about an hour and discussed many things with him: his style of writing, his inspirations as well as his motives and his everyday life as an author. Each student took a turn asking a question (several times) that would be then answered directly by the author and that during the whole interview.
I found the experience very interesting, it was the first time I had ever had the opportunity to talk to an actual American author about literature and his work as an author. I enjoyed the fact that we were able to cooperate with Eric Price and learn many elements of literature from this experience. Can’t wait for another interview like this one.
